Happy Saturday!
This is Jane from Rhode Island. I just my lash extensions filled, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to answer all of your questions about them!
I have naturally stubby, stick-straight lashes. Getting extensions became the norm in my group of girlfriends and I could never get over how gorgeous they looked! Plus, you can just roll out of bed and feel beautiful–like truly the first time I could pull the “I woke up like this” card. When I got my extensions, I received so many questions from friends and colleagues.
OVERALL, WHAT HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE BEEN LIKE? DO YOU LOVE THEM?
YES! Omg, I can’t tell you how much I love them. Having them has really cut my getting ready time into next to nothing, and it’s such a subtle difference (that people won’t quite be able to put their finger on–what’s different?!) that makes a big impact.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS LIKE? HOW LONG DOES APPLICATION TAKE?
The first application takes the longest, up to an hour/hour and a half. You basically have your eyelids taped shut so they don’t move on the top and bottom, which sounds terrible but you get used to it quickly. You’re laying on a massage-type table so it’s comfortable–and you just relax while your technician essentially glues the extension on lash by lash. After that, fills take less time–maybe about 35 minutes? It depends on your lash condition, small natural volume will take longer time, vice versa.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
It really depends on where you go, but I paid $220 or the initial application, and $65 for each fill. You can find lesser quality extensions for cheaper though. (But I think it’s kind of one of those “you get what you pay for” situations, to be honest.). I choose Premium Silk, it looks natural and pretty.
HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
Mine have lasted me a month in between fills, which is considered pretty long, but I think it all has to do with who I go to–more on that below! For best results, I’d say about every 3 weeks is pretty necessary to get them filled.
DO THEY MAKE YOU REAL LASHES FALL OUT?
Not going to lie, yes, of course they do. I’ve only had them one other time and my lashes were definitely a lot more sparse for a couple of weeks after my extensions fell out, but they grew back quickly. Also, the Lash serum they selling will definitely help restore them ASAP! (IMO, still worth getting them, no questions asked.)
ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF EXTENSIONS?
There are! There are lot’s of different kind of extensions that vary in price. I would highly recommend going to someone who uses Premium Mink Lash extensions–they’re faux mink (the mink ones are the most expensive but look the most real) and they still look very natural.
Where do you get yours applied?
I go to Mei who is the owner of Beauty Studio in Cranston–she’s amazing! She has done all of my friends’ lashes! You can email her at beautystudioplace@gmail.com or just book online https://beautystudioplace.setmore.com
CAN YOU FEEL THEM?
Not anymore. It only took me a few minutes to get used to them! The biggest difference is that you REALLY notice how much you usually touch your eyes. You want to avoid rubbing them as much as possible, but I got used to this by the third day and now I don’t automatically rub my eyes as much anymore.
DO YOU STILL WEAR EYE MAKEUP?
This is the best part about them, you really don’t need to wear eye makeup! My every day routine is now just face makeup, but if I’m going out, sometimes I’ll still wear eyeliner and eyeshadow, but never mascara! If you’d like to wear eye makeup, you just need to be sure to use an oil free remover.
CAN I GET LASH EXTENSIONS IF I HAVE SENSITIVE EYES?
Honestly, I think that’s really up to you. I don’t have sensitive eyes but I have sensitive skin, and I haven’t ever had issues. It’s best to discuss this wherever you plan to get your extensions.
I WANT TO GET THEM FOR MY WEDDING, HOW EARLY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND GETTING THEM?
To be safe, I got them in enough time to have two fills before the big day. Because they are customizable in terms of fullness and length, I wanted time to be able to get them just right. I’d recommend starting off as natural as possible and then increasing fullness if you want to as you go. I got them a bit fuller last time than I did initially, and we got them just right for my wedding day!
DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE ALTERNATIVES TO EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
Yes, actually, before I got my extensions I was using their serum and it was amazing! This definitely doesn’t replace extensions, because I still found that mascara was very necessary, but the serum did make my lashes grow exponentially! It uses vitamins and peptides, not chemicals, so there’s no risk of discoloration or irritation, either!
